Zoya Tawhidi, PhD

Consultant

What a science mindset means to me:
Approaching uncertainty with curiosity, persistence, and a commitment to evidence-based decision-making.

Prior to joining Shift Health, Zoya earned her PhD in Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology from the University of Toronto, where her research focused on antibody-mediated rare diseases in transfusion medicine. Her work has been presented at multiple conferences, published in peer-reviewed journals, and awarded with a graduate fellowship from Canadian Blood Services. During her graduate training, she held several leadership roles, including Chair of the Student Association at St. Michael’s Hospital and Vice-President Finance of the Graduate Student Union.

Beyond academia, Zoya has experience as a venture fellow, where she evaluated early-stage MedTech and digital health innovations for market fit, scientific rigor, and real-world applicability. She also completed a regulatory affairs internship at Johnson & Johnson, contributing to Health Canada submissions and conducting literature reviews and competitive intelligence analyses to support regulatory strategy.
