Fatemeh Mirshafiei, PhD
Consultant
What a science mindset means to me:
Treating every business problem like a research question by forming a hypothesis, stress-testing it with data , and iterating until the evidence guides a clear answer.
Prior to joining Shift Health, Fatemeh completed her PhD in Biochemistry at the University of Toronto, where she focused on developing novel metabolic therapies for heart failure. Her research has been presented at over 10 national and international conferences and contributed to multiple peer-reviewed publications.
Alongside her research, Fatemeh held key leadership roles, including Academic Commissioner Lead for the Biochemistry Graduate Student Union, where she led the department’s annual graduate survey, and Co-Chair of the Peer Communications Team, supporting effective scientific storytelling.
Fatemeh is passionate about mentorship and has supported trainees from underrepresented communities across academic and non-academic settings. She also co-chaired the Graduate Peer Support Network mentorship program. She complements her scientific background with a mini-MBA and project-based consulting experience across healthcare, technology, and the public sector, including work on stakeholder interviews, market analysis, and go-to-market strategy development.
