Before joining Shift Health, Yan worked across finance, biotechnology, and the pharmaceutical industry. In the financial services sector, he worked in consultative sales, helping clients understand and plan for illness protection and medical protection needs. Through this work, he developed a strong appreciation for the human impact of healthcare decisions and the value of connecting people with better treatment and protection options.

Yan later moved into the biotechnology sector as an account manager, where he worked with life sciences customers and deepened his interest in bridging science with business. He further developed this perspective through an internship with a global pharmaceutical company, where he gained experience in oncology marketing, healthcare strategy, and the commercialization of innovation.

Yan earned a Master of Philosophy in Biochemistry from the University of Hong Kong, where his research focused on cell signaling pathways. He also holds an MBA from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto, with an emphasis on healthcare and marketing.
