A top-5 pharmaceutical company sought to assess the scientific evidence base linking antibiotic use and disease to inform future decision-making on a targeted antibiotic strategy.
Shift Health’s Role
Shift Health conducted a systematic literature review to identify relevant data and score the strength of evidence supporting a link between antibiotic use and development of negative health outcomes. We scored evidence by assessing factors such as the number of supporting studies and study type (e.g. prospective vs. retrospective; human vs. animal) and considered confounding factors as well as countervailing evidence. We then evaluated the evidence in aggregate to identify the common risks associated with antibiotic use and disease development.
The findings from this engagement will be used to inform the company’s targeted antibiotic strategy and orient R&D programs in a manner that aligns with payer priorities.
